Blue Pearl Instruction Manual

Features

Comes complete with abayya, shayla, makeup, limited accessories and a job, normally sort after for her  fun personality

Blue Pearl is best known to be a free, smiling tip toer, with lip gloss and hand cream nearby, always loaded with perfume and talking excessively, she loves people, laughing, playing games or dreaming.

She is independent as she wants to be, yet sentimental and never an excessive shopper but rather the type who gets 1 handbag, uses it the same day till the day it tatters, then get a new one and start the cycle over. Her claim to contribution on earth is as follows: "I work contributing to the economy by buying lots of gifts, perfumes, chocolate and ice-creams, in my spare time I appreciate my ardent love for butterflies, flowers, ponds, rainbows, clouds, sunsets, moonlight, the internet, grassy parks, sandy beaches, a good cup of organic green tea, friends, family, children, prayer, helping others and re-cycling, as a means of giving back". She has a huge obsession with shoes but an equal dislike for greed and materialism. She is likely to say silly things from time to time but certainly not the complaining type. She can self destruct but normally a peaceful, happy thing due to her heart over mind theory.

Side effects: (Self Destruction Mode)
* Don't answer when she talks to you (sulk mode engaged)
* Plug in IPhone earphones, press play on IPOD (sweet silence humming mode)
* Take her somewhere new (silent wordless awe mode engaged)
* Introduce her to someone new, (automatic silent shy runaway smile mode)
* Give her a puzzle or game (challenger I need to figure this out mode)
Say something to upset her  (shutdown/cry mode - she wont talk cause she is holding her tongue.
Warning: Likely to explode if pushed.) To fix the situation, do not ignore her ever and say something nice.
Final Word:  Blue Pearl is unique, rare and low maintenance. Once befriended, She’ll love you  more

Apple Apple Apple

Ever since Apple made a show up again, years ago, with their first IPOD, I have been one of those junkies who had to have everything from the IPOD 1st gen, to IPOD video to IPOD shuffle to ITouch and now IPhone 3GS. So you can imagine every time there is new release from Apple, I go gaga and just imagine how patiently I waited for operating system (OS) 4.0 to be launched - a few days ago, that moment came and I had an explosive me-time with my IPhone 3GS, upgrading it to OS 4.0.

How do I rate it? Well the update was not so smooth but once I got it restored, the wait was worth it!!!! I give it the thumbs up with noteable likes being the folder option for apps, home screen wallpaper, the Ibooks app and the multi-tasking.

I love Apple:)

Queens of Islam

"When you see a person who has been given more than you in money and beauty, look to those, who have been given less." (Muslim) [THERE IS A SIMILAR RENDITION BY BUKHARI]

يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيمِ ﴿٦
6) O man! What has made you careless about your Lord, the Most Generous?
الَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّاكَ فَعَدَلَكَ ﴿٧

Arabic Calligraphy

If you one those people who loves to write in arabic but because it is not your primary language, you tend to struggle with grammar and writing or from a lack of tools, then this post will be most useful for you.

The first is a translator, that allows you to convert english words to arabic - the one drawback is that, the translator does not necessarily translate correctly so be sure to check your results each time.
Google translator (click on this link to access the website)

Arabic Keyboard (click on this link to access the website) The second is my favourite tool, which I often use, It's an arabic keyboard and perfect if you one of those people who do not have an arabic option keyboard or if you have one and not sure how to access the arabic features (on the keyboard), like me:)

Falconry

[Picture: Qatar falcon hunting - The falcon is national bird of Qatar]

My morning inevitably started on a beautiful note, with Mae, telling me stories of Falcons and their fierce fighting skills - falconry the term used for the sport of falcon hunting is one of the most savored sports in the Gulf– it represents a passionate pastime and bond with predatory birds. Mae's passion and experience with the sport is captivating, making you want to be an instant Falconer however that's easier said than done - nonetheless its all so exciting hearing the stories and watching the videos of falcons clawing in on their targets at great speed, raising dust in its scoop.

It is an art and a skill that is one of its finest to watch against the Arabian desert backdrops and let me just say, its a very well-preserved and disciplined sport! I just love it!

The Arabian Peninsula is one of the last places in the world where falconry remains an important sporting activity. The people of the Gulf have a strong personal sentiment and commitment to falconry and ensure that it is practiced in the correct manner, with the proper respect due to Islamic laws. The sport originally started with nomadic Bedouins, who used these birds to hunt down meat due to its great sight ability in dusty terrain.

[In Dubai - a beautiful falcon pictured with his owner]

And never underestimate the importance of a Falcon – during hunting/sporting season, you will find these Falcons travelling with owners in first class on Gulf airlines, one notable airline is, Qatar Airways. Falcons don’t come cheap and neither does their care lack in anyway, enthused with daily attention and care from a Falconer who manages the Falcon’s training and needs

So next time you travelling first class, don’t be surprised if your travel companion turns out to be a Falcon

Take care of your soul روح‎

And they ask you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) concerning the Rûh (the Spirit); Say: "The Rûh (the Spirit) is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little."[al-Isra 17:85]

The ruh (روح) ....

...is the most important immortal aspect of a person, according to islamic belief - it is not well elaborated in Quraan and hadith however we know that it is connected to the body in five different ways:

  1. Its connection to the body as a foetus in his mother’s womb.

  2. Its connection to the body after a person is born.

  3. Its connection to the body when a person is asleep, when the soul is connected in one way and separated from it in another way.

  4. Its connection to the body in al-Barzakh برزخ (the period between a person's death and the Day of Resurrection), when it has departed from the body and separated from it, but is not separated completely in such a way that there is no connection at all. We have mentioned at the beginning of this reply that there are ahaadeeth and reports which indicate that the soul is returned to the body when somebody sends the greeting of salaam to a deceased person. This returning is of a special nature which does not mean that the life is restored to the body before the Day of Resurrection.

  5. Its connection to the body on the Day when bodies will be resurrected. Your soul and your heart are connected - it's what keeps us centered as humans. To keep the heart and soul happy, is to exude goodness in everything we do, to adhere to the straight path away from evil. The concept of "sickness of the soul" is very much alive, more so in the modern era, where evil is widespread. As it becomes absorbed in abundance of worldy matters, in confrontation with bad or evil, the ruh/soul becomes more inclined towards "sickness".

In everything we do, we need to question ourselves and hold firmly onto our beliefs and prayer. There is no greater gift that Allah has bestowed upon us than the Quran, the five pillars of islam, the sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), repentance and the gift of dua/prayer.

We all make mistakes, we all do wrong  - there is none more patient than Allah - His Kursi (footstool/throne) extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. Turn to Him - Converse with Him, the Almighty, the wise, the hearer, seer and knower of all known and unknown.

"And whoever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allah's forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.''

يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّ أَرْضِي وَاسِعَةٌ فَإِيَّايَ فَاعْبُدُونِ ﴿٥٦
(56) O My slaves who believe! Certainly, spacious is My earth. Therefore worship Me." (Alone) .
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ ﴿٥٧
(57) Everyone shall taste death. Then unto Us you shall be returned.
 (58) And those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, to them We shall surely give lofty dwellings in Paradise, underneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever. Excellent is the reward for the workers.
الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ ﴿٥٩
 (59) Those who are patient, and put their trust (only) in their Lord (Allah).

(60) And so many a moving (living) creature carries not its own provision! Allah provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.
 [سورة العنكبوت]

While you have the opportunity, do good, help others, appreciate your life, say good or kind words, educate others, be humble, be patient,  seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave, help the elders, visit the sick, spend time with family, attend weddings and funerals, give time to orphans, practice the five pillars of Islam أركان الإسلام  [Shahadah الشهادة ; Salat صلاة‎; Sawm صوم‎; Zakat زكاة‎ ; Hajj حج‎ ] and separate yourself from materialistic needs.

I fear that as women this consequence is of higher need, i.e., seperation from materialism is key in becoming more humble. Ladies, you dont need to succumb to peer pressure or following trends blindly - rather be a trend setter yourself! You dont need to have fancy jewellery or fancy handbags to be noticed but if you  have a beautiful heart, it will extend to paradise where jewels and pleasures far more beautiful that this earth's offering, awaits you. [See the hadith below on women]

Todays Hadith
Narrated Al-Bara' bin 'Azib: Allah's Apostle ordered us to do seven things and forbade us to do other seven. He ordered us: to follow the funeral procession. to visit the sick, to accept invitations, to help the oppressed, to fulfill the oaths, to return the greeting and to reply to the sneezer: (saying, "May Allah be merciful on you," provided the sneezer says, "All the praises are for Allah,"). He forbade us to use silver utensils and dishes and to wear golden rings, silk (clothes), Dibaj (pure silk cloth), Qissi and Istabraq (two kinds of silk cloths).

"The Prophet said: 'I was shown the Hell Fire and the majority of its dwellers were women who are disbelievers or ungrateful.' When asked what they were ungrateful for, the Prophet answered, 'All the favors done for them by their husbands.'"

Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi was sallam) said, "A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. You should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser. "(Bukhari)

Welcome Gautrain!

Why hello Gautrain (Kaoo/Gao Train) - the long awaited train system in Johannesburg no doubt comes with a huge applause in a city where traffic is a growing problem.  The Gautrain project (an 80-kilometre mass rapid transit railway system)  is not complete however ahead of the World cup, the link between the Airport and Sandton (Johannesburg's commercial hub based in the northern suburbs) has been set up.

3 cheers for Gautrain!~!~!

Today, is its first official day in operations and here's hoping to a wonderful and successful story in its name. The trip between the airport and Sandton will set you back approximately 12 minutes ($12 US fare one way) compared to a drudging drive in a rental car of up to 45 minutes in peak traffic.

For more information go to: http://www.gautrain.co.za/

So what about Sandton - is it a safe city? Hell yeah! Sandton has to be one of the most beautiful commercial cities in South Africa and the Gautrain station has been situated ideally on the famous 5th street playing neighbour to the famous Nelson Mandel Square, The Sandton City Shopping Mall, The Sandton Inter-continental Hotels, The Sandton Convention Centre, The Raphael hotel suites and The Michaelangelo Hotel suites.
A picture of Fifth Street and Sandton City

A bit advice for our tourists: When anywhere in Johannesburg, do be street smart, dont talk on the cellphone while walking on the street, try your best to trade in the local currency or by visa cards, dont ask people on the road for directions and use the official transport systems allocated (Johannesburg boasts a great bus system and more recently, an equally good private cab service that will cost you though).

On the upside, you will love Jo'burgers, the cuisine, the hotels, the sunsets, or a drive to the Lost city and its few other gem amneties.

Patience صبر

In a time where newspapers have become darth vaders showcasing doom more and more, it makes you wonder though, how much of good there is left.

I often question my own values daily and make sure that in my treatment of others, I always deliver patience, goodness, kindess, care and good conversation.  I try my utmost never to hurt anyones feelings and if I do for some reason, I often apologise immediately because I dont know when my time will end. When I am confronted with in the face arguments, I often remain silent because I wish not to say anything to hurt someone and talking on the spur of the moment without a collation of my thoughts, is a disaster.

Why is it that we have lost our patience? Surely life has become more easier with all the modern offerings we have at our disposal. Perhaps its all the luxury and materialism that life has afforded us allowing us to elevate/rank ourselves higher than others and let our ego's rule our attitude.

It is a thought, that, at the end of the day, we are all answerable to Allah, the one and only, the one who created us and the one to whom we will return and who is the Judge of us. It is also an amazement how patient Allah must be with us while we become fake, greedy and ignorant people who have lost our sense of direction.

Today I thank my mother for teaching us patience, for drilling it in to us and no matter how bad things got, her famous words still remain in my head till this day "Be patient, Allah knows best" and for Allah, without whom my life would make no sense. Read. 2 Rakah nafl after your salaat and you will feel like a different person every day.

Here are today's hadith:

The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant. From whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it. But when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but remains patient until Allah removes the difficulty). (Bukhari)

Narrated Abû Hurairah: Allah’s Messenger said, “The strong man is not one who is good at wrestling, but the strong man is one who controls himself in â fit of rage.” (Al-Bukhâri and Muslim)

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: Allah’s Messenger said, “A Muslim is a brother of Muslim, he neither wrongs him nor does hand him over to one who does him wrong. If anyone fulfils his brother’s needs, Allah will fulfil his needs; if one relieves a Muslim of his troubles, Allah will relieve his troubles on the Day of Resurrection.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Narrated Harithah bin Wahb: I heard Allah’s Messenger saying, “Shall I not inform you about those who are entitled to Paradise? It is every person who is, modest and humble (before Allah), a person who is accounted weak and is looked down upon but if he swears (hoping for Allah’s Bounty), Allah will certainly give him what he desires. Now shall I not inform you about the inmates of Hell? It is every violent, impertinent and proud man.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah’s Messenger said, “Richness is not in plenty of provisions; the (real) richness is the richness of the soul.”

Have a great weekend
